PG County Urban Stream Fossil Hunt (Fossil Club Members Only, Just 6 Spots Available)

THE EVENT:  Hunt for Cucullaea Gigantea fossils in a suburban Maryland creek.  The Cucullaea Gigantea is an extinct species of false ark shell from the Paleocene, found only in MD, VA, and AL. We will walk about one third of a mile on a sidewalk, then take a short path to the creek.  We will walk about one fourth of a mile in the creek.

MEETING TIME:  9:30 AM
BACK TO CAR AT END OF EVENT: 12:30-1:00 PM
MEETING LOCATION:  Temple Hills, MD  (Specific address and directions will be sent to participants after they register for this event)
LIMITED NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS:  The number of participants is limited to 6 plus the leader. The collection area in the creek is small. A small group size ensures participants can have space between each other and are more likely to find nice specimens.
WHAT TO WEAR:
shoes or boots for walking in the water (No sandals, no flip-flops, no open toe shoes)
long pants for walking in the water (or fishing waders or waterproof pants over your other pants). No shorts. Your pants will get wet. Quick dry pants are more comfortable than cotton jeans.
long sleeve shirt
hat (sun hat or baseball cap)
WHAT TO BRING:
bucket with handle such as a drywall bucket
rubber dishwashing gloves

Cancelation Policy: NHSM Field Experiences

Cancelations made 7 or more days in advance of the field experience, will receive a refund (minus a $5 processing fee). Cancelations made within the week of the event will not receive a refund but can be transferred to a friend. Spaces are very limited on this trip, and cancelations allow people from the waitlist to join.
