Fossil club members have an exclusive field trip to a PG county urban stream known for its Paleocene Aquia Formation (59 – 55.6 MYA) finds.
This part of Maryland was once underwater, leaving mostly marine fossils behind. This field trips will be to look for Cucullaea gigantea, a large fossil commonly called the “false ark shell”. You are also guaranteed to find a species of oyster, Ostrea compressirosta. Sand tiger shark teeth, ray plates, and gastropod molds are uncommon but possible in the gravel beds.
Please arrive on time. The trip will end no later then 1:30 pm.
DIFFICULTY AND CONSIDERATIONS: There will be a short walk (about 0.4 miles) on sidewalks and paved road to the collecting site. Be aware of poison ivy, downed trees, and broken glass in the stream and along the banks. You may need to climb over or under fallen trees.

Cancelations made 7 or more days in advance of the field experience, will receive a refund (minus a $5 processing fee). Cancelations made within the week of the event will not receive a refund but can be transferred to a friend. Spaces are very limited on this trip, cancelations allow people from the waitlist to join.
