Pan for Gold

Field Experiences Field Trips Open to the Public

“There’s gold in them thar hills.” Dr. M.F. Stephenson yelled those famous words from the courthouse steps to the townspeople of Dahlonega, Georgia, in 1849. As the town assayer, he was enticing them to look for gold there, rather than leave for the gold rush in California.
We don’t need to leave for California, either. We’ve got gold right here in southern Pennsylvania.
Join us to learn how to pan for gold with the Pennsylvania Gold Hunter, Jesse Streeter. He’ll teach us what to look for in the correct terrain, panning techniques, and how to classify what is inside your gold pan. Proper etiquette when prospecting is also important and will also be discussed.
Participants must bring their gear with the minimum being a gold pan and a shovel. You are also welcome to bring varying sizes of shovels, gold pans, and classifiers and 5-gal buckets. These are all easily available on Amazon.
Check out Jesse’s YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/@pennsylvaniagoldhunter.
