Terrapin Tales, Crab Pots, and Human Behavior: Is there a better ending to the same old story?

Maryland DNR Wildlife Biologist, Scott Smith will chart conservation efforts for the terrapin. Presented by Scott Smith. Scott received a BS in Natural Resources from the University of Rhode Island and a MS in Wildlife Management from Frostburg State University. He is a Wildlife Ecologist with DNR’s Natural Heritage Program. He has worked for DNR for 31 years. Scott currently conducts conservation efforts and applied research for reptiles and amphibians and their habitats, though in his career he has worked throughout the US with birds, mammals, fish, shellfish, and plants. He has worked with terrapins since 2008, some of which he will discuss tonight. A native New Englander, Scott has lived in Maryland for 34 years and on the Eastern Shore in Caroline County for the past 31 years. Scott is married to a fellow biologist (Nancy) and has a wonderful daughter (Abby) who is a therapist in Baltimore and also teaches at Towson University.
The NHSM Herpetology Club is dedicated to the study and conservation of reptiles and amphibians, as well as promoting responsible ownership and captive breeding of this beneficial group of animals. Club activities allow networking with amateurs and professionals in the field of herpetology. Additional member benefits include, member only field trips to local sites to find, photograph native reptiles and amphibians, and a members only Facebook page for networking and sharing photos and ideas. Our monthly meetings promote fellowship and education between members at all knowledge levels. Many of our members are children, and they are always encouraged to participate in all club activities.
Normally meetings are held monthly on the 1st Thursday of the month at 7PM at the Natural History Society museum, and are open solely to Club Members. However, during COVID, NHSM has moved programming online, and is opening up this special Herp Club meeting to all. If you are a herp enthusiast, please consider joining us for the presentation then joining the club. NOTE: You must be a member of NHSM to join any of its clubs. NHSM membership is $25 for individuals, $35 for families, Herp Club membership is an additional $5 for individuals and $10 for families. The Natural History Society of Maryland is a volunteer-led non-profit organization, so the fee you pay will go directly to support the programs, the nature collections, and the building that make this kind of nature education possible.
