They say that truth is scarier than fiction. NHSM is ready to prove them right. Join us for an (adult) evening of Halloween fun, Natural History style with Stomach-Churning Stories of Science Gone Wrong about a young physicist, a monkey head and a bucket of plaster by scientist and professional storyteller Tim Livengood, along with tales of death and mayhem inside a beehive with Master Beekeeper Steve McDaniel – “All Hail the Queen Bee!” We will also get to know a few of the worlds most strangest inhabitants. Please dress in costume or have a spooky screen background. Winner of the online costume contest will receive a NHSM membership, and will be featured in an online post.
Tim Livengood is a storyteller who favors funny stories about scary stuff, like the whole universe, which is full of excitement and dangers. The rest of the time, he is a scientist exploring things like the universe and planets, using telescopes and spacecraft. But nobody wants to hear about that. Also: no aliens. Not yet.
Steve McDaniel Steve McDaniel has been keeping bees since 1979. He is one of 120 Master Beekeepers in North America. Steve teaches courses in beginning beekeeping and gives many entertaining presentations and slide talks to clubs, schools, and nature centers about various aspects of beekeeping and bee biology. An award-winning professional nature photographer, he illustrates most of his talks with his stunning images and has provided the pictures for several books. Steve and his wife Angie live in Manchester, Maryland, outside of Baltimore, and their “Honey Farm” is their backyard. Steve maintains about 20 colonies of honey bees which produce several hundred pounds of prize-winning honey each year.
