Maryland’s 5 Million Tree Initiative

Community Science Lectures & Workshops Open to the Public

Plant and grow a tree for every Marylander. In 2021, the State passed the Tree Solutions Now Act (TSNA), which called for the planting of 5 million native trees across Maryland by the end of 2031. This is an all agency, all hands (even yours) on deck initiative to not only help with carbon mitigation, but also to combat urban heat islands and provide valuable habitat and ecosystem services.

Gary Allen, president of the Maryland Forestry Foundation, whose Healthy Waters program pledged to plant 1 million trees, will provide an overview of the program, updates, plans, and ways you can get involved. Gary is on the Board of Sustainable Maryland, the Maryland Association of Environmental and Outdoor Education, Clean Air Partners, 5 Million Tree Commission, the Maryland Sustainable Forestry Council, and the Bowie Supportive Housing Corporation. He is also a Lay Leader at St. Matthews UMC, Bowie, MD.
