BONUS PRESENTATION FOR MAMMOTH SPEAKER SERIES
In addition to being Founding Fathers of the United States, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, and others shared a fascination for mammoths and mastodons. In this special bonus presentation, Dr. Bernard Means from Virginia Commonwealth University will share another side of the founding fathers, fossil collectors. Learn how the quest for mammoth bones was part of a feud between France and the U.S., how Washington searched for fossils during pauses in the Revolutionary War, and why a mammoth was on the list of animals Lewis and Clark were instructed to find.
