Join archaeologist Stephanie Sperling and Patuxent River Park environmental scientists for a relaxing and educational pontoon boat tour of Jug Bay! We’ll visit several important archaeological sites and talk about 10,000 years of life along the beautiful mid-PatuxentRiver. You’ll learn about ancient Native villages, colonial towns, early American plantations, and War of 1812 shipwrecks. Don’t miss this chance to experience history and nature on the water!
Stephanie Sperling is an expert archaeologist from M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County’s Natural and Historical Resources Division. Stephanie will share how these archaeological sites inform us about past ways of life along the Patuxent River.
This trip is open to NHSM Archaeology Club members. Spaces are limited. You must be 12 years of age or older to attend. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to assure a timely departure.
If it is raining lightly, most likely the tour would still go on. If it is down pouring and/or thunder-storming, we would cancel/reschedule. We would make that call within 24-48 hours of the program.
