Lectures & Workshops Open to the Public Special Event

Over 100 marine species living in US waters are listed as Endangered or Threatened under the Endangered Species Act. Well-known and beloved species like humpback whales and green sea turtles occupy spots on this list, as well as species that are not as familiar. In this talk, marine conservation biologist Dr. David Shiffman will go over the threats to these animals and what is needed to save them from extinction. He will also share success stories from past ocean conservation efforts and ways to get involved. We will learn about global conservation treaties and non-profit organizations that work in conservation. Be sure to bring your questions.

David Shiffman is a Washington, DC-based marine conservation scientist who focuses on the ecology of endangered species and how to protect them. He received his Ph.D. in environmental science and policy from the University of Miami and is an alumnus of the Liber Ero Postdoctoral Fellowship in Conservation Leadership. He is the author of the book, Why Sharks Matter, and invites you to follow him on Bluesky, where he’s always happy to answer any questions about sharks, marine biology, or ocean conservation.

Children over the age of 10 are welcome to join their parents for the talk.

You are welcome to come early to eat dinner in the taproom. Kooper’s Pit Stop food truck will be there.  More Heavy Seas Beer info is at  https://www.hsbeer.com/
