Join Dragonfly and Damselfly expert Bonnie Ott on a field trip to see these amazing insects firsthand in the habitats in and around Centennial Lake in Columbia, MD. During the trip we will focus on field identification.
Those who attended last year’s field trip with Bonnie know how how she helps participants find, observe, identify, and understand the life history and ecology of these Odonates (i.e., dragonflies and damselflies).
Plan: We’ll walk halfway around the lake for a total of two miles.

Bonnie is a volunteer. All proceeds from this field trip will go directly to the Natural History Society of Maryland for the creation and support of the Maryland Naturalist Center Project, which makes this kind of nature education possible
Note: This trip is suitable for adults and for older children with a long enough attention span and the ability to be still and observe closely.
Leader: Bonnie Ott is a long-time birder, starting as a teenager, and over the years she has developed interests in all aspects of the natural world. She always appreciated Odonates, but in the last few years they have become her main focus. Bonnie has assisted Odonate researcher Richard Orr with his surveys and has learned a great deal. She has been field trip chairman of the Howard Bird Club since 1990 and has led numerous bird walks for the local chapter of MOS (Maryland Ornithological Society) along with field trips during their state conventions, and for the Audubon Naturalist Society. Bonnie Ott is a keen observer of nature who gets out almost every day.
