NHSM’s collection manager, Kat Mullineaux, is seeking volunteers to assist with cataloging archaeological materials collected by Richard E. Stearns in 1949 from a site in Conowingo, MD.

The objects are documented in spreadsheets but don’t yet exist in our database, Arctos. This project will involve matching bagged objects with their associated information in the spreadsheet, creating new catalog records in Arctos using the data, and relabeling the bags with new Arctos catalog numbers. All the objects have been identified and all needed data has been gathered — not too much detective work!

Location: This cataloging event will occur at NHSM, 6908 Belair Rd.
Date and Time: November 10, 2024, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Participation is free, but you must be a current member of the NHSM Arch Club. Please RSVP using this registration page so that we may accurately predict the number of volunteers.

Natural History Society of Maryland’s Archaeology Club promotes the value of archaeology in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and surrounding areas. The goal of the Archaeology Club is to educate citizenry in the ethics, methods, and artifact preservation methods of archaeology and how archaeology can be used to document, discover, and promote local history. The Archaeology Club is inclusive to all persons who have an interest in archaeology. The Natural History Society of Maryland is a volunteer-led non-profit organization, so the membership fees you pay will go directly to support the programs, the nature collections, and the building that make this kind of nature education possible.
