Clubs fossils Open to the Public

At this meeting of the NHSM Fossil Club, Dr. Lindsey Koper from Howard University will discuss her research into the evolution of seal hearing.

Dr. Koper (she/her) is a gross anatomy instructor in the Department of Anatomy within the College of Medicine of Howard University. She teaches human anatomy to first year medical, dental, and graduate students. She is originally from the Midwest and received her B.A. in Geology from Augustana College as well as her M.S. in Biological Sciences from Northern Illinois University studying Dire wolves. Overall, her research interests include functional morphology of mammalian carnivores; Dr. Koper’s doctoral dissertation from Howard University focused on seals and their hearing, specifically looking at the morphology of the skull and associated hearing apparatus.

This talk will take place at 6908 Belair Rd in Overlea. Like all NHSM club meetings, it is free and open to the public (although donations are always welcome). Please email the club coordinator (mfalk@marylandnature.org) with any questions or concerns.

Natural History Society of Maryland’s Fossil Club is a group of novice and more experienced collectors who meet to exchange knowledge, help with fossil identification, and discuss fossil locations and other fossil-related topics. Monthly meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month and are open to all.

If you are a fossil enthusiast, please consider joining (https://www.marylandnature.org/club-membership/). NHSM membership is $35 for individuals, $50 for families. The Natural History Society of Maryland is a volunteer-led non-profit organization, so the fee you pay will go directly to support the programs, the nature collections, and the building that make this kind of nature education possible. Learn more about NHSM Clubs: https://youtu.be/pIA7naRjXws
