The Northern Map Turtle (Graptemys geographica) is state-endangered in Maryland since it is found only on the Susquehanna River and tributaries and is faced with myriad anthropogenic threats, including the presence of a hydroelectric dam, human recreation, and habitat alteration. We will chat about technical and political solutions to some of these problems.
Steve Kimble got hooked on herps as a child when a toad first peed on him, but he really got into turtles as a graduate student when he worked on population genetics in eastern box turtles. Since then he has worked on lots of project in a variety of salamanders and turtles. Most recently he has started working on the state-endangered Northern Map Turtle population on the Susquehanna River in Maryland.
