Embrace your nocturnal side with NHSM!
We will visit a park in Historic Havre de Grace. Spanning over 530 acres, this park is home to a diverse landscape of agriculture fields, marsh, forest, and waterfront. This park is home to a vide variety of birds, mammals, herps and insects.
We will be setting up lights and white sheets to attract moths. We will observe a diverse group of moths and other insects that call Maryland home. Possible species include Luna Moth, Rosy Maple Moth, Baltimore Bomolocha Moth, and Orange-banded Epicallima moth. You never know what species you’ll find!
DIFFICULTY: walking will be minimum (1 mile or less). Be aware park restrooms and facilities may be closed. July can bring pests like mosquitos, ticks and other biting insects.
WHAT TO BRING: water, chair, headlamp/flashlight
WHAT TO WEAR: Be prepared for buggy summer conditions. Long pants are recommended. Do not wear white or other super light colors (you run the risk of being covered in moths and other insects). Closed toed shoes are required. Bug repellant spray is a personal choice. Feel free to bring a camera or smart phone to document what you see!
Additional details and exact location will be provided to registrants.
